Kathy’s Sugar Cookies

Kathy Mirto, The Currituck Club, Corolla, NC

 

Makes 5 dozen 2-inch cookies

 

1 ½ cup confectioners sugar, sifted

1 cup butter or margarine

1 egg

1 teaspoon vanilla

½ teaspoon almond flavoring

2 ½ cups flour

1 teaspoon baking soda

1 teaspoon cream of tartar

 

Mix butter and sugar. Add egg and almond flavoring. Mix thoroughly. Stir dry ingredients together and blend.

Refrigerate overnight.

Heat oven to 375° F. Divide dough in half and roll 3/16 inch thick on lightly floured surface.

Cut with cookie cutter, sprinkle with sugar, or frost after baking. Place on greased cookie sheet and bake 5 – 8 minutes or until lightly brown.
