Turtle Stew

 

Serves 4

 

2 pounds turtle meat

4 tablespoons butter

6 celery stalks, chopped

2 zucchini, chopped

1 can tomato sauce

2 quarts water

1 package fresh mushrooms, sliced

2 large onions, chopped

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1 cup potatoes, diced

1 tablespoon sugar

Salt and pepper to taste

 

 

Cut turtle meat into bite-sized pieces and boil in 2 quarts water for 20 minutes. Add remaining ingredients and simmer until meat is tender. Add diced potatoes and cook for rough one half hour more.

 

Serve with crackers or toast.
